For some reason, many people who know little about singing believe that drinking hot or water with lemon before a performance or a training session is good for your voice. It is not.
You should only drink water that is neither hot nor cold. Cooled down tea is all right, too, but you should avoid beverages with caffeine before singing.
While lemons do have their health benefits, they do not help you much if you learn how to sing well because they dehydrate your vocal chords and that is just the opposite of what you want. Some people recommend salt water as it might help to relax your voice. And the more relaxed your voice and your body are, the better you will feel when you are singing.
Smoking and alcohol do not help you to sing good
People who learn how to sing well also learn that certain unhealthy habits do them no favor. Smoking affects your vocal chords in a way that makes it harder for you to hit the high notes, and an overuse of alcohol will also do your singing career no good.
